Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy
Before And After Facial PRP Therapy:
Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy: A-PRP or PRP Therapy
Have you ever wondered if you could feel better, look younger, and heal your own body without the use of drugs or foreign substances? Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (A-PRP) allows you to do just that with the use of your own cells. We use platelet rich plasma injections in our Orlando clinic to help our patients feel their very best.
What is Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (A-PRP)?
A-PRP is created from your own blood. To understand A-PRP, first we have to understand a little about what is in your blood. Most of your blood is made up of a liquid called plasma. Your blood also contains small solids in the form of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A-PRP describes a mixture of blood that is very high in platelets. This mixture is then re-introduced into the body to helpt the body heal and re-build itself.
How is an A-PRP solution made?
To create the A-PRP solution, your doctor first has to extract blood from your body. This is done in the same way you would have your blood drawn for any lab work. This blood is then put through a special centrifuge which spins the blood at high speeds causing it to separate out the white and red blood cells, and concentrate your platelets in your blood’s plasma. The plasma is, at this point, considered “platelet rich;” meaning it has a high concentration of platelets as compared to your normal blood.
What are platelets and what purpose do they serve?
Most likely you’ve heard of platelets associated with clotting blood. They are the cells that rush to the site of a cut and cause you to stop bleeding. Without platelets, any paper cut could be deadly. However, platelets don’t just stop the flow of blood, they also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which play important roles in how your body heals itself.
What does A-PRP therapy treat?
Because A-PRP allows your body to rebuild itself, it can be use for a wide variety of conditions. Whether you want to use platelet rich plasma therapy to treat a knee injury or for cosmetic purposes, it will leave you looking and feeling more youthful. Below are some of the conditions we treat at CIMA with A-PRP.
- Hair Loss
- Facial Rejuvenation

Can anyone do A-PRP therapy?
No. People with blood disorders, platelet disorders, and smokers are not candidates for platelet rich plasma treatment. If you area a smoker, you must be smoke-free for at least 2 months before getting therapy, and remain smoke-free thereafter. It is high recommended that you quit smoking altogether, as smoking causes blood hypoxia and is the main cause of many peoples’ wrinkles, skin problems, and circulatory conditions.
